Effect of natural antioxidants on egg yield and egg quality in laying hens

Huevos y Fitogénicos

Dear colleagues,

This week we have chosen an article related to the use of phytogenics in laying hens.

The main objective of this study was to determine the effect of natural dietary antioxidants: thyme, rosemary, oregano, and curcuma on the productive and reproductive performance of laying hens and to study the oxidative stability of egg storage.

The conclusion is that all antioxidants tested improve egg performance and quality, with a clear tendency for turmeric to show the best results.

It is also interesting to note that the doses of turmeric required are half those of the other phytogenics, perhaps because of the multi-action activity of turmeric on metabolism compared to the other antioxidants.

From my experience these doses could be reduced if we combine the different phytogenics with any type of capsule …. obviously, I would prefer the system used in Nutribiogenics but any type is welcome.

In our case we get good results with less than 500 ppm as we work with nanoencapsulation, an activator used in the same capsulation and our extract takes into account a stable form of curcuminoids and turmerones.

Enjoy the article.
