Dairy liquid supplements for piglets

Yogurt and pigs

Dear colleagues,

A common problem in hyperprolific sows is the lack of sufficient milk production, especially during the week prior to weaning, which can result in litters with high weight variability and low piglet weights.

Another common problem at weaning is that, due to stress and the change from liquid to solid feed, animals may stop eating during the first days, causing intestinal dysbiosis problems and a reduction in the size of the intestinal villi. This problem is further aggravated because the nutrient composition of milk is significantly different from the composition of a pre-starter diet, e.g. the energy in milk comes from lactose and fat and in feed is provided by cereal starches.

To solve the problem of lack of milk production in hyperprolific sows in the last week of lactation and to improve adaptation to a solid diet in the first post-weaning week of piglets, we are pleased to announce that NutriBioGenics has finalised the design of our first milk supplement for piglets with the combined characteristics of yoghurt and sow’s milk. The product, called NBG YoguPig, is a highly palatable product that provides a highly digestible source of energy and protein that also provides nucleotides, emulating the contribution of sow’s milk. NBG YoguPig also has a probiotic contribution like yogurt which together with the nucleotide contribution is key to maintain the intestinal health of the piglets.
