The gut microbiome of healthy and arthritic dogs

Dear colleagues,
This week we have chosen an article that attempts to link the gut microbiome and osteoarthritis in dogs, a topic that does not surprise me when we consider that pro-inflammatory molecules produced by any chronic inflammation, in this case joint inflammation, could affect the permeability and immune function of a highly sensitive tissue such as the intestinal mucosa, thus influencing the type of gut microbiome.
However, we must not forget the reverse process, as a chronically inflamed intestine, releasing pro-inflammatory molecules into the rest of the body, will surely add an extra challenge to an animal with a predisposition to suffer from any type of osteoarthritis.
So it’s no surprise that commonly used natural products that preserve gut health and reduce inflammation are also likely to help care for your joints.
It is only a theory that has begun to be studied, but from my point of view it makes a lot of sense.
Enjoy the article.
