The effects of hydroxytyrosol on immunocompromised chickens

Dear colleagues,
This week, we are pleased to present an article demonstrating the immune-boosting effects of hydroxytyrosol. Specifically, it evaluates how this molecule is capable of restoring the immune system of broiler chickens immunosuppressed with cyclophosphamide.
Hydroxytyrosol is a type of phenolic phytochemical with potent antioxidant properties.
In nature, hydroxytyrosol is mainly found in olives, olive leaves and olive oil in the form of oleuropein, and is converted into hydroxytyrosol during the ripening of olives.
Oleuropein accumulates in the leaves and fruits of the olive tree as a defence mechanism against pathogens and herbivores.
Hydroxytyrosol has repeatedly been shown to be one of the most potent antioxidants we can ingest through our diet, capable of reducing inflammatory processes.
For example, its antioxidant capacity could neutralise the cycle of immunosuppression caused by free radicals produced by the innate immune system itself when it is hyperactive and overcomes the body’s protective antioxidant mechanism.
In addition to hydroxytyrosol and oleuropein, there are other interesting molecules in olives, such as oleanolic acid and tyrosol… but we will discuss these in future articles.
Finally, just remember that if you want to use hydroxytyrosol or other olive phytogenics, I recommend enhancing these molecules with the appropriate technology, as we are doing at NBG with NBG OxiShield, because otherwise their efficiency will be low and their feeding cost will be too high.
At Nutribiogenics, we have developed NBG OxiShield, a powerful immunomodulator and metabolic antioxidant that uses olive extract rich in active molecules enhanced with our HHH technology as its core ingredient.
So far, the results obtained in prestigious R&D centres have been surprising, reducing, for example, the mortality rate of chickens affected by mycoplasma from 14% to less than 4%!
In future articles, we will show you in detail these wonderful results obtained thanks to our HHH technology.
Enjoy the article.
