Enhanced turmeric extract and gut health in piglets

This week we have chosen an article that shows how turmeric extract enhanced with a powerful natural antioxidant such as resveratrol is capable of increasing growth and improving the integrity and functions of the intestinal mucosa in weaned piglets.

Resveratrol and curcumin also increased intestinal antioxidant capacity and mRNA expression of gap junction proteins.

These data confirm that curcumin enhancement could be a good promoter of gut health due to its various properties as a metabolic antioxidant, antimicrobial, anti-inflammatory and immunomodulator.

However, this is not the only way to enhance the power of turmeric extract:

It is also possible to achieve synergistic effects by combining turmeric oleoresin with capsicum oleoresin, or by combining turmeric extract with black pepper piperine or through an encapsulation process. As can be seen, there are several strategies that work towards the same goal.
